YOGA YOUR BODY, DANCE YOUR SOUL draws from both yoga and dance techniques to find new freedom in the body - physically, mentally, intellectually, and emotionally. Come and join movement artists Martha Carter (dance, yoga, scoliosis) and Heather Mah (dance, psychology, coaching) for a week of deep bodywork and exhilarating freestyle movement. Martha will bring awareness and strength to your core and Heather will guide you to free your expression from within. Discover the wealth of your own creative movement through a dynamic combination of pranayama, asana, and dance, all taught in the beautiful beach studio of Yoga del Pacifico. This workshop is designed for students of all levels. No yoga or dance experience is required.
Martha Carter combines her experiences as a dance artist, scoliosis specialist and yoga teacher to share physical exercises that bring awareness, alignment, length and strength to the whole body. From Vancouver, Canada, Martha is the Director of Marta Marta Productions, and Twisted Outreach Project (TOPS). A certified Yoga Teacher, she holds a BA in Music, an MFA in Dance and teaches both dance, yoga and Stretch for Scoliosis in Vancouver and beyond.
Heather Mah brings a rich history of contemporary dance experience to guide participants towards greater body intelligence. Dance refines physical expression, the imagination, and releases each one's unique creative flow. A resident of Montreal Canada, Heather has performed as a contemporary dancer with international touring companies for over 20 years. She holds a BFA in performing arts, BA in psychology, and a certificate in personal coaching, and has been teaching her ‘Soul Dance’ technique in Montréal since 2011.

Do you have a fused spine? Have you had surgery to correct a scoliosis or for another condition? If so, these workshops are designed for you!
'Fusion Yoga' explores new ways to work through the tightness, stiffness, fear and pain often experienced by people with surgically 'corrected' spines. Based on Martha's personal experience living and dancing with a fused spine, she combines exercises from dance, yoga, pilates, massage and stretching techniques to awaken the body to new sensation.

Come and join acclaimed teacher and scoliosis specialist Deborah Wolk on the majestic west coast of Canada! Enjoy a revitalizing and rejuvenating 4-day retreat surrounded by the wild and natural ocean, rivers, mountains, ancient trees and wildlife of Saltspring Island.
As Deborah has learned from her 20+ years of teaching, the scoliotic spine affects not only the bones and muscles but also the nerves. In this workshop, you will learn yoga movements that help your spine follow your eyes to redirect it’s movement patterns through the use of props, walls and other external stimuli. With this expert guidance, you’ll find you have more extension, alignment, and balance than ever before.
ABOUT THE DESTINATION: Salt Spring Island is known as the largest and most popular of the many gulf islands on the west coast of Canada. With its spectacular coastal and pastoral scenery, the island offers many outdoor activities, as well as the opportunity to explore dozens of artist studios and artisanal farms and markets. The workshop will be held in a private studio with accommodations close by. Salt Spring Island is a quick float plane ride from Vancouver International Airport. Or you can arrive via a stunning ferry ride from Vancouver or Victoria.

ABOUT DEBORAH: Having practiced yoga for her own scoliosis since 1994, Deborah has found that alignment-based yoga can control back pain and arrest the progression of the curvature and twist. She has been teaching students with scoliosis and other back conditions since 2000 in New York City, nationwide and in Europe and Asia. From 2007-2014 Deborah co-founded and served as co-Director of the successful Yoga Union Center for Backcare and Scoliosis. In January 2015 Deborah founded the workers' cooperative Samamkaya Yoga Backcare and Scoliosis Collective in Manhattan.

Join Senior Certified Iyengar Teacher Elise Miller for a special 5-day, two-part Yoga for Scoliosis workshop. Classes will be held at the fully equipped and stunning Yoga Weyr near Nanaimo on gorgeous Vancouver Island. Guests will stay close by at the 10-acre park-like waterfront estuary that is Kiwi Cove Lodge. Optional evening activities will include a mixture of social and educational events. Nature walks, river swimming and delicious shared meals included. Get away from your routine and immerse yourself in the teachings. With all of your material needs taken care of, you can focus on learning, relaxing and socializing in your preferred amounts.
This workshop is appropriate for anyone with scoliosis, whether currently a yoga student or not. Teachers and teachers-in-training are also urged to attend to gain knowledge and be more skillful when assisting their students with scoliosis. Participants who teach yoga may use this workshop for on-going education and apply hours toward a certificate in Yoga for Scoliosis from Elise Browning Miller.
Investment: Includes 20 hours of instruction, 4 nights accommodation, Thursday dinner to Monday lunch, evening educational and social activities on yoga, scoliosis and healthy movement.
