Inspiring Teen with Scoliosis Creates Community Change

14-year-old Elisabeth Harkins found out she had scoliosis during a routine checkup with her doctor.  Elisabeth had to wear a brace and cope with the sense of alienation so many teens learning to live with scoliosis struggle with. Seeing a gap in her community, Elisabeth founded a Curvy Girls Chapter in her town, and petitioned her state governor to call June Scoliosis Awareness Month – both of which became a reality. TOPS applauds this intrepid teen and shares her story to inspire other young people to stay positive and proactive as they learn to manage their scoliosis.
